The Upper Vinschgau Valley as a hiking paradise

Well marked hiking trails. In the valley, in the mountains or on the summits. Theme trails. Family trails. And all this surrounded by a unique landscape with views of the Ortler Group, the Sesvenna Group and the Ötztal Alps. This is the hiking area Upper Vinschgau Valley. Whether you prefer a cosy round with the family over the numerous alpine pastures or whether you want to climb a peak at dawn – here you can decide every day for a new destination.

Do you already know the “Waalwege”? These are narrow water channels that were built centuries ago and were used by people to irrigate their fields until the 19th century. Or how about a multi-day tour on the Vinschgau Valley High Mountain Trail? Don’t miss the newly built 360° Upper Vinschgau Valley circular hiking trail – a highlight for all hikers and nature lovers.

Easy hikes

You want to explore the Upper Vinschgau Valley on foot, without climing in altitude? Then the lifts at the adventure mountain Watles are the ideal solution for you! The local recreation area is within easy reach. When you reach the top, you can walk comfortably to the Pfaffensee Lake or to alpine pastures and huts and enjoy the wonderful view. Our tip: the Bruggeralm pasture, which awaits you with fresh homemade delicacies!

Family hikes

A classic among the family hikes are the historic irrigation channels. You can hike along refreshing watercourses without great differences in altitude and your children can get to know the flora and fauna of the Upper Vinschgau Valley at the same time. Theme trails are also very popular among families, such as the nature experience trail through the Prader Sand biotope or the Naturaronda in Sulden. These paths can also be travelled with a buggy.

Walking & Exploring

There is much to explore in the Upper Vinschgau Valley. And how would that be better than on foot? Very comfortable and always with a view of the sights. What do you think of a sightseeing tour of the smallest city in South Tyrol? In Glurns you will not only find old arcades and stately mansions, but also the whisky distillery Puni. A leisurely walk to Marienberg Abbey or St. Nikolaus Church is also a good alternative to long walks.

Mountain and summit tours

The Upper Vinschgau Valley is made for mountain climbers and mountain freaks. The impressive mountain ranges of the Sesvenna and Ortler Groups and the Ötztal Alps make every experienced hiker’s heart beat faster. Spectacular panoramic views included! Join a mountain guide and climb the mountains around King Ortler with like-minded people. A sunrise hike to the Watlesspitze is always a highlight.
